VR Medical Training

Crosswater renews its dedication to VR for medical training this week at UB.
Crosswater’s Immersive VR/360 producers are back at the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in the Behling Simulation Center to capture an Emergency Code Scenario. In the future, simulations like these can provide students with the chance to experience what challenges they’ll face before they even have to step foot in the ER, or any other hospital setting where a code may occur.
Curious? Ask us questions about our work with UB and the Jacobs School of Medicine, and the benefits that immersive media is bringing to the next generation of physicians’ education.
Get a taste of our VR/360 experiences by taking this Crosswater produced virtual tour of the beautiful Jacobs School of Medicine.

VR Training US Army

The U.S. Army is using immersive VR/360 media for training purposes.

They have been creating realistic 3D simulations of various scenarios to introduce soldiers to accurate combat experiences. These first iterations of VR training are expected to “enable units to enter live training at a much higher level of proficiency,” according to Maj. Gen. Maria Gervais, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center-Training.

VR Training is becoming widely accepted and practiced as a legitimate form of job training for nearly any profession in almost every industry.

Buffalo Seminary VR/360

Buffalo Seminary hosts an open house tonight to introduce potential students to a “tradition of forward thinking” education.

They will also be unveiling their new VR/360 student marketing campaign entitled, “Day In the Life,” produced by Crosswater.

The project took a year in the making, capturing all the special events and experiences that are part of the daily life at the private all-girls school.

Buffalo Seminary is no stranger to forward thinking. In addition to the immersive marketing video, they have partnered with Crosswater on the development of a VR/AI language learning experience for their students.

Nancy Fernandez, Crosswater’s Director of Immersive Education, said “We need more women in the tech sector for representational purposes, cutting out some unintended bias and breaking the age old stereotype that tech is a man’s job. It’s (the VR/AI lab) a pipeline from high school to high tech.”

Oculus Quest

The next iteration of Oculus’ VR headset has been introduced by Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

The new model will combine the benefits of existing VR headsets and minimize the negative aspects that are common complaints. Oculus Quest will be wireless and will not require a powerful PC to operate, but it will still hold the same gaming functions that VR users enjoy by using the Oculus Rift.

Exciting new developments in VR technology will continue over the coming years, propelling the industry further and further into mainstream success. The Oculus Quest is expected to be released in spring of 2019.

VR is Maturing

VR has reached a tipping point in its introductory process to our mainstream culture.

According to Gartner, a research company, VR is “rapidly approaching a much more mature stage, which moves it off the emerging technology class of innovation profiles.”

This comes as more and more people have adopted the limitless potential of using VR in all realms, not just for gaming and entertainment.

VR’s potential is exponential, and we at Crosswater cannot wait to see where it’s headed!
